Peaceful Ryedale in rural North Yorkshire is the last place on earth that intelligence agents might begin looking for enemies of the state. The district, bordered by the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds, is better known for its spectacular scenery, bustling market towns and picturesque villages. So residents here who have been fighting a grassroots campaign to stop a company from drilling for shale gas near their homes have been left aghast – after being compared with terrorists.
