Branford RTM moves forward with fracking ordinance

After approving an ordinance prohibiting any waste generated in the process of hydraulic fracturing from being used within town limits, Branford has joined seven other state municipalities that have enacted similar regulations locally.

The ordinance that prohibits any fracking waste — either liquid or solid — from being used, disposed, treated or stored within the town’s perimeters was approved 21 to 6 with one abstention during Wednesday night’s Representative Town Meeting. The RTM’s approval of the ordinance comes nearly 10 months after it was first proposed in February.
